Farm Hand

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, skilled farmer to join the AOOA team.  The ideal candidate has spent some time working on a farm in fruit/veggie production and/or livestock management, however, we are open to training those without prior experience.  Motivated, reliable, organized and hardworking people who are committed to developing their agricultural skills are a great fit with our team.

Compensation & Benefits

Farm Hands begin with a part time commitment of 24-30 hrs/week over 3 days at $20/hr.  Availability on at least one weekend day is required. If, after an initial trial period, there is mutual interest in a larger commitment, this job has the potential to develop into a full time role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with crop production: tarp, turn, amend beds; seed, transplant, irrigate, weed, fertilize, manage pests and diseases of crops

  • Assist with orcharding: plant, weed, irrigate, mulch, prune/trellis, fertilize, manage pests and diseases, harvest, and propagate orchard trees

  • Assist with livestock chores: feeding, watering, cleaning, fencing, rotating animal groups, collecting and washing eggs

  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies

  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace organization, safety and environmental practices

  • Maintain and improve the farm's physical appearance so that it is presentable, welcoming and safe

  • Operate equipment safely and effectively

  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with upkeep and maintenance of facilities and farm equipment

  • Mechanical and technical ability to troubleshoot issues with equipment, irrigation, and infrastructure

  • Excellent time management and strong sense of pace

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Positive attitude and solution-oriented

  • Strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to operate with autonomy

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly

  • Ability to meet deadlines
