About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, skilled farmer to join the AOOA team. The ideal candidate has spent some time working on a farm in fruit/veggie production and/or livestock management, however, we are open to training those without prior experience. Motivated, reliable, organized and hardworking people who are committed to developing their agricultural skills are a great fit with our team.
Compensation & Benefits
Farm Hands begin with a part time commitment of 24-30 hrs/week over 3 days at $20/hr. Availability on at least one weekend day is required. If, after an initial trial period, there is mutual interest in a larger commitment, this job has the potential to develop into a full time role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with crop production: tarp, turn, amend beds; seed, transplant, irrigate, weed, fertilize, manage pests and diseases of crops
Assist with orcharding: plant, weed, irrigate, mulch, prune/trellis, fertilize, manage pests and diseases, harvest, and propagate orchard trees
Assist with livestock chores: feeding, watering, cleaning, fencing, rotating animal groups, collecting and washing eggs
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
Promote continuous improvement of workplace organization, safety and environmental practices
Maintain and improve the farm's physical appearance so that it is presentable, welcoming and safe
Operate equipment safely and effectively
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Experience with upkeep and maintenance of facilities and farm equipment
Mechanical and technical ability to troubleshoot issues with equipment, irrigation, and infrastructure
Excellent time management and strong sense of pace
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
Positive attitude and solution-oriented
Strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail
Ability to operate with autonomy
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
Ability to meet deadlines
