About the event
Join us on Saturday, December 30 as we bird count at All One One All Farm with local ornithologist Brooke Goodman. Last year, we saw 16 species in under an hour including Eastern bluebird, northern flickers, downy woodpeckers, a Cardinal, Juncos, Northern Mockingbird, Canadian geese, Red-tailed hawks, Carolina wrens, and more. Hot beverages will be available!
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) started in 1900 as a conservation initiative by Frank Chapman and 26 other bird lovers. Instead of hunting, they decided to count birds on Christmas Day. Fast forward to today, and the CBC is a global event happening in 20+ countries!
Today, it is a 120-year-old community science tradition with thousands of volunteers participating in an early-winter bird census. Each year, all Christmas Bird Counts are conducted from December 14 to January 5.
Open to all ages and no experience is needed. If you have them, please bring your own binoculars!
We will be outdoors, so please check the weather and wear the appropriate footwear and clothing.
